Giant Buffalo Proof coin. What's it worth?
 

My friend just brought this by the house, said he bought it off somebody for $10. It feels roughly like about 5 ounces maybe? The coin is in great shape, but the holder is all cracked to hell, and it had a holographic serial number, but it's all torn off. It looks to be fairly thin, maybe the thickness of a presidential dollar coin.

I would like to know a little more about this coin, as I can't find anything on it after a few searches. I might try to buy it off him, but want to be prepared first. Any help is appreciated.

It's worth it's weight in silver, that's a good start.

Odd, that it's not labled in troy oz.
